Can a host take back the car anytime?

This article explains how your booking is protected and the limited circumstances in which a car may be returned before the scheduled end of your trip.

Written by Lai

No. Once your booking has started, the car is reserved for your use until the scheduled end of the trip. The host cannot ask you to return the car early or recover it without Drive lah's approval.

When can the host request the car back?

A host may request an early return only in exceptional circumstances. These may include, but are not limited to the ff:

  • The car develops a mechanical fault, safety issue, or is subject to a safety recall.

  • The car has been involved in an accident or requires immediate inspection or recovery.

  • There are security concerns involving the car.

  • There is reason to believe the booking is being used in breach of Drive lah's Terms of Service, including the use of an unauthorised driver or other prohibited activities.

  • Drive lah identifies suspicious activity, fraud, payment irregularities, identity verification concerns, or other anomalies that require investigation.

  • Drive lah is required to intervene to comply with legal, regulatory, insurance, or law enforcement requirements.

All requests are reviewed by Drive lah on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if the host requests the car back?

The host must contact Drive lah before taking any action. Drive lah will assess the situation and determine whether the trip should continue or end early. Where appropriate, we'll coordinate with both you and the host to arrange a suitable resolution. The host should not attempt to recover the car directly unless coordinated with Drive lah.

Can Drive lah require me to return the car?

Yes. To protect the safety of our users, the car, and the integrity of the platform, Drive lah reserves the right to require the early return or recovery of a car, suspend or terminate a booking, or take any other appropriate action where reasonably necessary. This may occur if Drive lah reasonably believes the ff:

  • Continuing the trip could pose a safety or security risk.

  • The booking, account, or payment is fraudulent or unauthorised.

  • The car is being used in breach of the Terms of Service or applicable laws.

  • There are operational, legal, regulatory, or insurance requirements that require Drive lah's intervention.

  • Any other circumstance arises where intervention is necessary to protect the host, guest, car, or the Drive lah platform.

Where practicable, Drive lah will inform both the host and the guest before taking action. However, in situations involving safety, security, suspected fraud, or legal obligations, Drive lah may act immediately.

What if I don't agree?

If you disagree with the host's request, continue communicating through Drive lah and follow the instructions provided by our Support team. Do not hand the car back directly unless instructed to do so. Drive lah will review the information available from both parties and determine the appropriate resolution based on the circumstances and the Terms of Service.

Will I receive a refund?

If your trip ends early following Drive lah's review, we'll assess the circumstances and determine whether you're eligible for a refund, booking adjustment, replacement car, or another appropriate resolution.
