Vehicle Reclassification from P to R
As of January 2025, new LTA regulations limit P-type (Private - P10/P11) vehicles on Drive lah to weekend and public holiday bookings only.
To unlock weekday bookings, your vehicle must be reclassified as Rental (R-type).
What Are P-Type Listings?
Vehicle class: P10 (private car: sedan); or P11 (private car: SUV)
Intended for private use but can rent out on weekends and public holidays only
Only eligible for bookings on weekends and public holidays
All hosts can still have full control of their availability and can block out specific dates anytime using the listing calendar.
How to check your vehicle class code / vehicle type on the Listing section:
Go to your listing on Drive lah
Click Edit
Scroll to the About section
Look for the field labeled Vehicle Class Code

Here's a video tutorial to guide you accordingly:
Processing time:
Reclassification is completed as soon as you have settled the payment for the conversion.
Next steps after conversion:
Reach out to Drive lah via support@drivelah.sg to update your vehicle type
If your car Is financed
Before reclassifying your vehicle type, check with your loan provider:
What to Ask:
Does your lender allow reclassification to R-type?
Are there any fees or loan term changes involved?
If your contract does not specifically restrict changing the vehicle type, you are within your rights to make that change. A company cannot enforce terms that are not explicitly stated in the agreement you signed. It's essential that any limitations, especially those related to hire purchase, are clearly outlined in the contract. In fact, several of our hosts have successfully challenged their insurance and finance companies, ultimately gaining approval to change their vehicle type without incurring significant penalties.
Common scenarios:
Most lenders permit reclassification
Some may require an admin fee or loan document update
Important: If your contract doesn’t prohibit vehicle-type changes, your lender cannot block the reclassification.
Insurance & rental usage
Will My Personal Insurance Be Affected?
No, as long as you remain the named driver
Drive lah provides trip-specific insurance for all bookings
Your no-claims discount and personal coverage remain unaffected
At insurance renewal:
Insurers assess driver profile, car age, and claim history
Most do not ask about vehicle classification
Because Drive lah handles claims, personal policies are generally not impacted
You may also request a quote from our partner insurer who support rental usage for personal insurance :
Can I convert to Z-Type?
Yes, but:
Do not enable PHV feature unless you have commercial insurance
Drive lah does not cover PHV trips
Do I Need Z10 Insurance without Using PHV?
Yes. All vehicles require basic insurance by law, even if PHV is not activated.
Drive lah insurance only applies during Drive lah bookings.
Road Tax & resale value
Will your road tax change?
No. Road tax is calculated based on three things:
Engine capacity
Vehicle age
Fuel type
Classification (P, R, or Z) does not affect road tax amount.
Does reclassification affect resale?
No. Vehicle resale value is based on:
Age and condition
Market demand
You can revert to P-type later if you stop renting. Reclassification does not reduce resale value.
Do I need a PHV sticker?
- No, sticker is not required for R10 or R11 vehicles
- A PHV sticker is required for Z10/Z11 only if PHV is enabled
