How are ERP tolls handled when I rent a car?

How ERP Works in Your Drive lah Car

All Drive lah cars are equipped with an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) which is a small device located near the bottom right corner of the windscreen. This unit automatically deducts tolls whenever you pass through an ERP gantry, but only if a valid card is inserted.

What You’ll Need

To use ERP, simply insert a NETS CashCard, EZ-Link, or FlashPay card into the IU.

Make sure your card has enough balance before starting your trip. You can top up at most convenience stores, ATMs, or through mobile apps.

Note: ERP charges are not included in your rental fee. These will be your responsibility during the rental.

When & Where ERP Applies

ERP charges typically apply during peak traffic hours, weekday mornings and evenings, at busy roads like entrances to the CBD and expressways.

The system automatically deducts the correct amount based on the time and location you pass through.

If the Card Isn’t Inserted or Has Insufficient Balance

If no payment is made at a gantry, the car owner will receive an SMS alert about the missed ERP charge.

In such cases, Drive lah will charge you for the missed toll, or you may be asked to reimburse the host directly during drop-off or via your communication with them.

Tips to Make It Simple

Consider signing up for virtual payment options like EZ-Link Motoring Service or NETS Virtual CashCard, which allow ERP tolls to be automatically charged to your credit/debit card—no physical card needed in the IU.

Before each trip, double-check that your card is inserted correctly and has enough balance.
