Some Drive lah vehicles are approved for use in Malaysia. If the vehicle is eligible, the commercial insurance of the host or Drive lah insurance coverage will apply during your trip accordingly.

Not all vehicles are cross-border eligible as this is decided by the car owner. Follow these steps to plan your trip safely and in compliance with our policy.

Step 1: Choose a Malaysia-Eligible Car

Use the “Malaysia eligible” filter when browsing available vehicles.

You can also check the individual listing for cross-border travel approval.

Step 2: Confirm with the Vehicle Owner

Even if the listing allows Malaysia travel:

Message the owner through the Drive lah app to confirm your intent.

Get written confirmation of any specific conditions or restrictions.

Step 3: Check Insurance and Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)

Insurance: Drive lah’s insurance only applies in Malaysia if the car is marked for cross-border use.

VEP (Vehicle Entry Permit):

Ask the owner if the car already has a valid VEP.

If not, contact Drive lah Support to assist the host with the application.

You can learn more about Malaysia’s VEP at: https://vep.jpj.gov.my

Reminder

  • Do not take a vehicle across the border without explicit approval from the owner.

  • Unauthorized cross-border travel is a violation of Drive lah policy and may result in fines.

  • Under our Insurance Policy, it states that the insurance provides cover when the car is driven in the following locations:

a) in the Republic of Singapore, West Malaysia and Thailand (but only within 80km of the border of Malaysia);

b) whilst in transit by sea during direct sea route across;i) the straits between Penang and the mainland of West Malaysia) the straits between Changi Point, Singapore and Tanjong Belungkor, Johor.
