What is a preauthorisation and how does it work?

A preauthorisation is a temporary hold placed on your payment method before your trip. It helps ensure that any additional charges (like damage or extra distance) can be covered if needed.

Why do we place a preauthorisation?

The hold protects both you and the host by:

Confirming your card is valid and active

Ensuring we can cover any incidental costs that may arise

When is a preauthorisation required?

It is placed before your trip begins.

After you complete three trips without any disputes, you may no longer be required to have a preauthorisation.

However, if you have had a past dispute, a preauthorisation may still be required.

What does the preauthorisation look like?

You may see it as a pending transaction on your credit card, PayPal account, or online banking.

The money is not charged or deducted from your account. It is only a hold.

You won’t see a refund—instead, the pending transaction will simply disappear once released.

When is it released?

We release the hold within 24 hours after your trip ends.

Depending on your bank, it may take up to 5–6 business days for the hold to disappear from your statement and for the funds to become available again.

Still seeing a pending charge after 6 days?

If the preauthorisation still appears on your account:

Contact your bank or card provider—they may need to manually release the funds.

You can also reach out to our support team here if you need help confirming the release.
